Appreciate the Randomness

Please say that you have seen Mean Girls. And if you haven't, lie to me. This movie is great. I just remembered these quotes from there and the accuracy has been ensured .

"At your age, you're going to have a lot of urges. You're going to want to take off your clothes, and touch each other. But if you do touch each other, you will get Chlamydia... and die."

"Don't have sex, because you will get pregnant and die! Don't have sex in the missionary position, don't have sex standing up, just don't do it, OK, promise? OK, now everybody take some rubbers."

"Can I get you guys anything? Some snacks? A condom? Let me know! Oh, God love ya."

"Boo, you whore!"

"Don't be fooled because she may seem like your typical selfish, back-stabbing slut faced ho-bag, but in reality, she's so much more than that."

Three Thanks

Again, late! So sorry! I know you were waiting with baited breath to see what I was thankful for yesterday...but I was otherwise engaged and away from a computer. Nashville's music industry is going through CRS week right now...and that's exciting for everyone involved (even those, like me, involved vicariously).

So, without further adieu...my three thanks:

1. Good Live Music - Here in Nashville we are blessed with a great deal of talent...but with that comes individuals who are convinced they have a great deal of talent. Here's to good live music!

2. Not Talking - Try to find the people that you are so comfortable with that you don't feel the need or the awkwardness to talk. People you can just be with. These people are a rare find, at least to me. Sometimes, just sometimes...the silence will speak volumes.

3. Lenny's - I love that place! And I don't smell like Subway when I leave. Always a plus.

On a side note - My Jetta is being recalled. Remind me again why I am not ditching this burden of a vehicle.

Three Thanks

Well, the three-day weekend for President's Day got me all messed up and I totally forgot to post my three thanks. Here we go:

1. Three-Day Weekends followed by ?? - You know what the best thing about three-day weekends is? The four-day week that follows. Here's to the four-day week ahead! It's almost Hump Day, people!

2. Napster Unlimited Downloads - I'm sure Napster offers this to everyone, but my subscription is through my school. I get unlimited downloads - for just about everything in their music library - for, I think, $5/month. They offer the same search capabilities as iTunes and I can listen to my music on up to three computers. The downside? I can't actually download them. The songs are more on loan... But it's still great.

3. Funny Friends - I attempt to surround myself with funny people. In fact, I would say that it is a requirement that my closest friends be funny. In a contrite way, I am going to say that laughter is so important - but it's very, very true. I saw my funniest friends this weekend. You know who you are...Thank you for making me laugh - and for laughing with me - and for laughing at me...

I am going to write more about this later, but I'll give you a little taste now since I am running out the door to class momentarily.

I was molested by a dog this weekend.

Clinton, a 10-month old puppy...who weighs a whooping 75 pounds...was enamoured with me and made it his goal to make beautiful babies with me. I'll tell you more later but for now, this is all you're getting.

Again, disHeartened by my Jetta

The "Check Engine" light is on again in my horrid automobile. This POS has been in the shop more than I have been able to drive it.

Britney's 'Shear' Maddness

Oh Britney! Please, honey...This is so last year - Natalie Portman.

I'm hoping for the best that this was some sort of religious/spiritual experience for you. Perhaps this was a sort of cleansing or rebirth from that horrible reject of society you were married to. Britney, say that's what your M.O. was!

PS - And, why were you getting a tattoo of red lips on your wrist?? Interesting.

Disney Princess

I make it a habit to not write about personal matters here, in public domain. But I feel the need to today. I went to a movie, Music and Lyrics, with my friend Abi last night.

To know how subversive this is, you must first know that it is my general rule to not patronize so called “Chick Flicks,” and haven’t done so in years. I find that they give young (and old) girls false hopes, dreams of romantic nights (and knights), and fantastical situations that could never take place in the “real world.”

Disney is one of the leaders helping to sell this image. They are like drug dealers…only they are supplying the world with a brand new crop of old maids who live alone reading romance novels with cats. The picture is drawn of some young, beautiful girl – ripe with innocence to the world and its inhabitants. Something goes terribly wrong, the plot thickens – enter in musical score that no one remembers – and in comes the prince/beast/beggar to save the damsel.

I don’t buy it.

For so long I have been single. Searching for the one man that doesn’t need me; rather, I search for the man that wants me. There is nothing sexy about desperation. There is nothing sexy about someone who simply can’t live without you…right? See, I think this where I had it all wrong.

I don’t want someone to feel nothing when I leave the room. I don’t want someone’s heart to not skip a beat when I come back in.

I want someone who wants (and needs) to spend time with me. Someone who is not apathetic to my existence.

I think “chick flicks” have it all right. Too long I have been subscribing to the way that guys want to love. Becoming a nonromantic (not saying that all guys are nonromantic…Lord knows this isn’t true). But I have come to find out that it’s just not me. I am a romantic.

I want you to live and breathe me. I want you to need me around…not all the time…let’s take this one step at a time, okay? Baby steps. Baby steps.

I want someone who is not afraid to make fun of himself. I can go ahead and tell you that you’re not perfect. And I can go ahead and burst your bubble that I won’t be either. I’m so far from that. I am not a Disney Princess with perfectly coiffed hair and a melodic voice. Okay, that’s a lie…I do have those things…but I don’t have a size 20 waist…and I don’t have a tail either…but hopefully you view that as a plus…

I laugh inappropriately, especially when I am nervous.
I detest public speaking with a vengeance.
Sometimes I snort when I laugh…but it’s quite rare.
I laugh constantly at my own jokes…and often, I am the only one laughing.
I have weird dietary concerns.
I am allergic to detergent.
I’m bad about calling people back.
I’m bad about calling people in general.
I don’t often say what I am really feeling.
I like designer things…and am somewhat materialistic.
I smell everything. All the time.
I’m loyal to a fault.
I always put on a happy face…no matter what.

I want you to show me the world…shining, shimmering, splendid. (Aladdin reference, anyone? Anyone?)

I want you to giddily explain to your friends that you’ve met the girl of your dreams and not care when they make fun of you…because you know deep down…they’re all just jealous.

But most of all, I want you to try. Try to win my affection. Don’t assume you have it. And don’t be settled on the fact that just because you do, it can’t be taken away.

I want you to make me laugh and make me cry. It’s okay. Without these emotions we really cease to truly exist.

I want you to hear a song on the radio and think to yourself how perfectly those lyrics pen the words that describe the way you feel at that exact moment.

I want you to dream about me at night. I want you to be afraid to say those three important words, but you do anyway.

I want you to not mind driving to where I live, because you know it will be worth it when you get here. I want you to come and see me when I am sick/depressed/stressed…and bring something over to make me smile.

I want you to reach for my hand and hold it tight. Hold it like you don’t want to let it go.

I want you to respect my need for space. I’m an only child…I had lots and lots of space…and time by myself growing up.

Forget apathy. Forget repressed emotions. Forget the should haves and the wanted tos.

Sweep me off my feet – I won’t settle for anything less…

So, ladies and gentlemen…here’s to passion. Here’s to mad love. Here’s to not giving up until you find it.

Wicked Pickles

I forgot! I found a website on my pickle jar for Wickles Pickles. Yeah...it wasn't Wicked. Sorry! No wonder I couldn't find them online! In my defense...the brand tag line is "A wickedly delicious pickle."

If you can find them in your grocery store, I suggest you try them! I found mine at Publix here in NashVegas.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! Or, if you want...National All Singles Awareness Day! Either one works fine for me, whatever floats your boat.

What are your plans for Valentine's? Sharing it with a loved one? Sharing it with a "complicated" one? How about with your cat/dog/ferret?

Whomever or whatever you are sharing this day with...just know...that I am sharing mine...with my computer and my Public Finance course. I have a huge exam due by 4:00 tomorrow and late admissions are not accepted. So, that leaves me with Mr. Darcy and my computer. Thank-you Dr. Bradley.

My office had a Valentine's luncheon today and I made chocolate covered strawberries. For a first attempt...I must say that they were pretty good. Next time I am going to try really decorating them...you know, with white chocolate and such. But really, nothing beats the regular kind. Chocolaty and fruity. Angel and Devil.

Okay, unfortunately, this break has been as much as I can take. I have to get back to my exam. Again, happy V-Day everyone. I hope it has been a great day/night for you all! :)

Three Thanks

Delayed, but none the less...here are my three thanks:

1. Target - Why can I spend hours in this store? Why does just walking in make me feel instantly better? Seriously, if I am in a foul mood...Target is a viable answer to my doldrums. I went in there last night to get Valentine's candy for my office's Valentine's party and I walked out with a beach cover up, lip gloss, bobby pins, two Lean Cuisines, way over-priced lotion, and most likely, way too much candy. Ahh, the lure of the bull's-eye.

2. Sweet/Hot Pickles - There is this brand called Wicked that sells these sweet/hot pickles that are awesome! I tried to find a link to it but couldn't. I'll get home tonight and let you know if I find it on the jar. These are a great complement to pretty much everything. Of course, this is only true if you like hot things...well, and pickles.

3. Hair Products - I love hair products. LOVE! I got this shampoo awhile back and it smells like raspberry lemonade...fantastic! It just makes showering a great experience.

Face Transformer!

This is great! The St Andrews Face Transformer takes a picture of you and distorts it into different ethnicities and likens your face in the fashion of famous painters. What would you look like if Van Gogh painted you? Find out here!

But, by far my favorite...Japanimation! I have been told by way too many people that I look like a living Japanimation character. And I suppose this one does show a striking resemblance...Check it out for yourself:

It's funny, the Asian image (2nd image/top row) doesn't look that different from me either...

Hum, perhaps my roots are over there...the Japanimation and the Asian images are the ones that look closest...

What do you think? How about yours?

This JustIn!

You can be jealous, it's okay. Really. You can be. I don't mind at all. Not everyone can be as cool as my friend and me. It's hard to keep up sometimes.

Oh stop, wipe that tear away.

Blow your nose. Come on, here's a tissue. Blow hard.

I'm sure there are still a few seats left...

Three Thanks

After a long and restful weekend, I awoke semi-refreshed for Monday's arduous task of seeing the doctor at 8:15 am.

If you are unaware, I have been on crutches and in an air cast for the past six or so weeks due to a broken bone in my foot.

See, I was riding a horse in the surf along the shores of the Gulf Coast when Tipper, my horse, got spooked by a rogue crab. Poor Tipper is deathly afraid of those unpredictable beasts and she bucked me off and into the water.

When I emerged from the surf, covered in seaweed and dangling crabs, Tipper was no where to be seen. The pain from the pinching crabs was too intense to notice the shattered a bone in my left foot. I proceeded to run down the beach frantically calling for my horse but she was no where to be found.

Forlorn, I walked back to my house wondering what could have befallen my beautiful Paso Fino. And there she was.

Kneeling in a bed of protected sea grass, Tipper looked up at me with her beautiful coal black eyes. Blinking through the tears at her safe return, I began to feel the pain of my shattered bones.

At this moment, the clouds began to darken and the winds picked up steam. The gusts of hurricane force winds and driving rain were not enough to detour Tipper from carrying my weak body to seek medical assistance. She found a strapping (and barely clothed) lifeguard just finishing his shift in the stand. He carried me piggy back to his home, warmed me by the fire with sub-zero convective warming blankets, and bandaged my foot with skin traction bandaging.

Ahh, but that was six (plus) weeks ago. Come to find out, all the lifeguard's efforts to save my foot were in vain. It has been diagnosed with avascular necrosis and will have to be amputated.

So, along with my Monday thanks -

1. Imagination - Love it. Need it. Life is so much, well...less boring with imagination.
2. Celine Dion - There's nothing better for a road trip than Celine Dion riding shot gun.
3. Kissing - Love it. Need it. Life is so much, well...less stagnate with kissing.

Dream a little dream of me

I don't want to delve into the particulars of this dream that I had the other night, but I will share with you what the dream dictionary said about the subjects I dreamt about.

Subject 1:
To see this in your dream, suggests issues with your femininity and your sexual needs/urges.

Subject 2:
To see this in your dream, signifies evil, disaster, and extreme misfortune.

Subject 3:
To dream this, is a reflection of what you may be feeling during your waking life. You may have repressed thoughts, unexpressed emotions, resentment, and hostility that is triggering this type of dream. This dream also denotes that you are disastrously mixing business with pleasure.

So, tell me what y'all think. What are your thoughts about dreams? Can/Should they be interpreted? Was Sigmund Freud right when he said that dreams are a reflection of human desires and prompted by external stimuli? If he is right, what's going on up there in my head??

Another theory is that dreams are metaphorical translations of waking expectations. Expectations which cause emotional arousal that are not acted upon during the day to quell the arousal, become dreams during sleep. Finally, he holds that dreaming deactivates that emotional arousal by completing the expectation pattern metaphorically, freeing the brain to respond afresh to each new day.
